WHAT ARE PROPS?

Any moveable item visible on film (with the exception of actors and
their clothes) Including the following:

Dressing Props (Interior) - Everything on the set
not specifically mentioned in the script but
needed to make the set look real - such as
furniture, drapes, carpets, china, flowers.
paperwork, bedding etc. etc.
(Exterior) - Cars, Horses & Carriages,
Plants & animals

Hand Props - Items which are used or held by Actors

Action Props - Items mentioned in the script or requested by
the Director which are central to the action in a scene

WHAT DOES A PROP BUYER DO?

The Prop buyer, also known as Production Buyer works with the Set Decorator
helping to find the above mentioned props both at the Prop Hire Companies,
shops Antique markets, on line etc.

They prepare the orders and make sure that the Prop Master knows where
and when to collect them. The Production buyer produces a weekly budget
for the Set Decorator and Production Accountant, so that all spending can be
closely monitored.
